WCCIM, participation in USAID program for women leadership development

Participants in Lahore

United States of America and Pakistan share the oldest, most cordial relationship. These two nations have fought together, against terrorism, their common enemies and most importantly, against conspiracies to spoil their terms. People of Pakistan hold great respect and love for their American friends and the feeling is requited in form of an extra ordinarily generous and kind gift in form of USAID by people of United States.

The purpose of this program is to develop a stable, secure and tolerant Pakistan with a vibrant economy. And USAID is doing it by educating people of Pakistan at every level. Through this, lives are being transformed, for better and for good. Special emphasis is laid on intellectual growth and personal development of Pakistani people on individual level.

Girl child and women of Pakistan are considered a priority under this program. From primary schools at Khyber Pakhtoonkwah to women's chambers in remote areas of South Punjab, USAID equally focuses on making women aware of their rights, strengths and capabilities.

Recently, USAID organised a prestigious 'Women's leadership development program' for women's chambers.
Members of WCCIM were also invited to apply. Four of the applicants from this chamber, Fariha Munir, Masooma Sibtain, Filza Akbar and Novaira Fahad were selected for the training.  Fariha and Masooma attended the training sessions at Lahore. Whereas, Filza and Novaira at Karachi.

Each session was for two days. The training sessions in Lahore were conducted on 18th and 19th January, at Avri hotel Lahore. Trainers for the session were extremely capable and well accomplished Ms. Roubina Taufiq Shah (former director general trade dispute resolution organization, ministry of commerce, government of Pakistan. And Ms. Asima Awan (human and institutional development advisor, the Kaizen company - A Washington based development company). These ladies also designed the manual for the participants. Excellent reading material indeed, with perfect explanation of 'Trade policy' and 'Advocacy'.

The trainers did full justice to the subjects. With constant interaction with the participants, they brilliantly explained Trade policy and advocacy. Not a single moment was uninteresting. Trainers tried to fill the minds of participants with as much knowledge as they could, within two days of nine to five rigorous sessions. While keeping the participants entertained and awake with break-up activities, running tea and lunch. On completion of it, those who attended were also conferred upon certificates of participation.

Truly a brilliant experience. It was not only a great platform for acquisition of knowledge but also great networking opportunity among extremely capable women from different chambers and different business sectors.

We admire and appreciate these efforts by our American friends and USAID in particular, also thank them for their sincere contributions.

Not only she wants an increase in the number of members, but is doing her best to add advantages to their membership scheme as well.  The day she took over as president, she proposed her idea of value added membership cards for WCCIM members, which would get them discounts at different places. Vice president  Novaira Fahad  went on to work hard to get famous restaurants,  parlors and grocery stores on the panel. Supported by the senior vice president  Uzma Burana  and others, now these membership cards are ready.
